Description

Whelen Engineering is seeking an EHS intern currently enrolled in an Environmental, Health, and Safety program whose primary responsibility will be to support EHS related projects for our Chester, CT facility. As an intern, the successful candidate will spend a significant amount of time improving the site PPE program, updating LOTO procedures, performing detailed Safety assessments, and support on-going safety initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities

Complete various tasks, training, and small projects as directed in the area of Environmental, Health, and Safety.
Standardize existing PPE program and LOTO programs.
Support Safety inspections and walkthroughs.

Qualifications and Education

Currently enrolled in a college Bachelor degree program in Environmental, Health, and Safety or a related field.
Ability to work a day-shift schedule, 40hours/5 days a week.
Ability to work safely in an industrial environment.
Ability to work in a dynamic team environment.
Possess a “can do” attitude with a strong willingness to learn.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently.
Computer literacy required (i.e. MS word, Excel, email).

Must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and third parties. This ability to communicate requires the employee to be conversant in English as the majority of our workforce and the third parties that we encounter only speak English.
